(a few days later) As sometimes happens, my initial enthusiasm for this version of “seem” wore off. What actually happened is that I didn’t like it in practice: I like to think in my ids, and this one didn’t stick in my mind well, was a little hard to hold. I think I’ll go with “think” plus the “iffy” squiggle that I dismissed in the above. Simpler is generally better. One good thing about it is that I can imagine the squiggly line either emanating from “think” or coming at “think”. I like this because “seem” does have this two-way aspect (“from my way of looking at it” vs. “gives the appearance of”).
